The Rangers of Ashdown Forest seek the visitor's assistance in protecting the Forest. You can help by observing the following code:
WILD FLOWERS, PLANTS AND TREES Please do not pick flowers and never dig up roots - many of these species rely on the Forest environment and are unlikely to flourish in your garden.
BIRDS Take care not to disturb birds and do not touch nests or remove eggs.
DOGS Ensure your dog is under proper control and effectively restrained from causing annoyance to other people and disturbing other animals.
HORSES Watch out for horses on the fire-rides where they have free passage.
SHEEP AND CATTLE Do not disturb or alarm the free-grazing animals which can be found on the Forest or allow your dogs or children to chase them.
CARS Please park your car in the areas set aside for parking and do not attempt to drive further into the Forest. Motorbikes and mountain bikes may not be ridden on the Forest.
PICNICKING Picnic where you please, but remember that picnic stoves are permitted only in the car parking areas and only between the 1st July and 31st December. Barbecues are not permitted at any time.
LITTER Please take ALL YOUR LITTER HOME, or use the bins provided.
THE FRIENDS OF ASHDOWN FOREST
The society of the Friends of A.F. was founded in 1961 to encourage interest in the conservation and peaceful enjoyment of the Forest and to provide funds to assist the Conservators in its management. Money raised by the Friends has bought vehicles, tractor implements, picnic tables, a radio communication system and land for the Forest. Keeping the Forest for the local residents and the thousands of visitors who value it for its views, peace and tranquility is a skilled and expensive business. By becoming a Friend you will be helping to preserve this unique corner of England.
Pick up a leaflet about the Friends from the Forest Information Barn or write direct to The Ashdown Forest Centre, Wych Cross, Forest Row, East Sussex, RH18 5JP (Tel: 01342 823583)Protect the Forest from fire.
Fires are easily started - a cigarette end could cause the destruction of hundreds of acres, killing all wildlife and leaving behind ugliness and desolation. If you see a fire, find out if the Fire Brigade has beer called. Dial 999. Fire-beaters are in stands in the car parks. Use them. Return them after use.
If you see anyone starting a fire, by accident or design, report to the Police or Forest Ranger. The Forest is yours to enjoy. Keep it safe.
